โ How we calculate
Months = (Goal โ Current) รท Monthly saving. We assume no interest.
How to use the savings calculator
1. Name your goal and target amount
A concrete target โ emergency fund, holiday, new laptop โ makes the number feel real instead of abstract. Enter the amount you want to reach.
2. Choose the timeframe
Pick how many months you want to save over. The calculator divides the goal by the period so you can see the required monthly amount at a glance.
3. Check the monthly figure against your budget
If the monthly amount is more than your budget allows, extend the timeframe or trim the goal. A realistic plan beats an ambitious one you abandon.
Worked example
Putting aside Rp 500,000 each month for 12 months builds a Rp 6,000,000 fund (before interest). For someone saving toward a first three-month emergency buffer, that covers a meaningful share of unexpected repairs or medical bills. Doubling the timeframe to 24 months at the same amount doubles the result to Rp 12,000,000 โ time is the cheapest lever you have.
Common mistakes
Saving before covering the basics
An emergency fund only works if essentials are already covered. Budget for rent, food, transport, and minimum debt payments first, then save what remains.
A goal with no date
A target without a timeframe drifts. Every saving goal needs a month or two attached to it, so the required monthly amount is a real number you can commit to.
Ignoring small regular leaks
A Rp 60,000 daily coffee is Rp 1,800,000 a month โ often more than a realistic savings amount. Fix the leaks before setting an ambitious target.
Frequently asked questions
How much should my emergency fund be?
A common guideline is three to six months of essential expenses. Start with one month, then extend as your cashflow allows โ a partial buffer already helps.
What if my income changes mid-way?
Savings plans are meant to flex. Recalculate with the new number and adjust the timeframe rather than abandoning the goal entirely.
Should I automate the transfer?
Automating a fixed transfer on payday removes the decision entirely and is the single most reliable habit for reaching a saving goal.
